Looking Back on Corruption: Representations of Corruption and Anti-corruption in Czech Party Manifestos between 1990–2017

This study follows the constructivist tradition of corruption research. Specifically, we analyze representations and anti-corruption in electoral manifestos Czech political parties movements between 1990 2017. In these documents, is primarily construed as a security issue framed within context economic organized crime. The causes corruption, main actors behind it, proposed countermeasures draw on three dominant discourses: neoliberal, centrist, populist. Neoliberal discourse attributes to overextended nature state, with public officials primary perpetrators corruption. Countermeasures are based streamlined administration personal accountability government employees this discourse. Centrist sees interweaving power cause perpetrated by mafia or lobbyists. rooted legal regulation cooperation forces Populist provides an updated interpretation former two discourses. It borrows metaphoric labeling from centrist repertoire logic neoliberal conclusion, compare our findings constructions other cultural contexts.
